Standards Development - Introduction

The standards development work is undertaken by Standards Working Groups (SWGs). The primary responsibility of each Standards Working Group is to develop standards for the structure, content and format of specific transaction flows (messages) between participant organizations.

Each SWG consists of members from participant organisations who have a thorough knowledge of the relevant business processes and inter-organisation interaction. Typically, they occupy a business analyst/architect role in their respective organisation.

The SWG develops a draft standard for the specific transaction flows identified in the swimEC investor briefing. The draft standards are published to a broader review group, whose feedback is considered and incorporated where necessary, prior to the standard being published as a final version. This iterative process continues until appropriate standards have been developed for each of the identified transaction flows.

It is anticipated that the standards development process could take approximately two years.

The SWG monitor, leverage and, where appropriate, reuse appropriate international standards which are being developed (eg. SWIFT, FIX CIV Standards).
