SPIN
The Superannuation Product Identification Number (SPIN) was created by the industry to assist superannuation funds with the reporting to the ATO of rollovers of superannuation benefits. The primary beneficiaries are funds who are rolling over to funds that do not issue account numbers until they have received the rollover. If the receiving fund has a SPIN for the product the benefit is being rolled into then the transferring fund can report the SPIN, rather than the member's new account number, to the ATO.
To facilitate industry use of the SPIN (Superannuation Product Identification Number) in surcharge reporting, a publicly accessible database, known as the Surcharge Reporting Register, has been established by APIR Systems Limited as part of its SPIN registers.
The Surcharge Reporting Register can be accessed on the APIR Systems Limited website.
