swimEC Standards Development EBOM
EBOM
The Standards Working Groups (SWGs) follow a formal and well-structured method called eBOM. eBOM is a disciplined approach to assigning tasks and responsibilities for performing a Message Development Lifecycle (MDLC).
eBOM's goal is to ensure the production of high-quality business-to-business (B2B) solutions that meet the needs of a set of businesses or a whole industry. The process defined by eBOM provides for:
- A thorough definition of the contents of each message standard
- An information engineering approach which ensures that data is made reusable and is consistently defined across message standards
- Precise definition of the functional requirements, workflow aspects and business rules
- Recognition of business line and transaction variation with the message standard
The provision of the eBOM product increases the productivity of all groups to work together in collaborative efforts. As all interest groups follow common processes they therefore will 'speak a common language'. The provision of a set of Method Roadmaps and interim deliverable lets all participants see the step-by-step approach to shared understanding and success.
